Gardner Financial Planning recognizes that your needs change and life gets more complicated as your stage in life changes.  We offer different service models for new clients depending on your planning needs.  No matter what your stage in life, we can be here to help you create your roadmap to success.


The illustration below is a simple guide to figure out where you may be in your current situation, and what planning needs may arise.  Not everyone will fit perfectly in one of these boxes but we can use this as a place to start, and then determine the model that works best for you.  A more in-depth explanation of what each model offers can be found after the illustration.

During the initial interview process, we will get to know one another. There is no charge for the initial interview. The interview helps us to understand how we may be able to help you. Please feel free to ask questions concerning services and fees. We will ask questions of you and will attempt to assess your needs, as well as your commitment to the process. If we feel that we can help you identify what is truly important to you and help you achieve it, we will move forward.


 


 

SUBSCRIPTION MODEL


People often assume that in order to work with an advisor they need to have assets readily available to invest. An advisor, however, can get you started on the road to achieving your goals, even if that means starting with basic budgeting and goal planning without investable assets.


 

Vangurd recently published a study that attempts to quantify the benefits of working with an advisor.  The study found that advisors could potentially add about 3% to a client's net annual return.  That study can be found here.  

 

The Subscription Model could be best for you if you have little or no investment experience but recognize that you have a need for help with planning for goals such as college savings, vacations, home purchase, or budgeting.

 

Planning areas may include:

  • Starting a new career or starting your own business and need help budgeting

  • Saving for a first home

  • Health care cost management

  • The proper use of credit

  • Basic investment recommendations


 

Services under the Subscription Model, depending on your planning needs, will include:

  • Needs assessment/Initial planning meeting in person

  • Goal Planning (college savings, vacation planning, home purchase)

  • Budgeting

  • Client Portal with account aggregation (A way to see all of your accounts in one place.)

  • Quarterly allocation recommendations on active 401(k).  Investment advice for other accounts in household up to $100,000.

  • Bi-annual plan review (What have we done and what still needs to be completed?)

  • Ongoing access to an advisor via email/phone (We are available to you throughout the year to answer any concern related to your plan, goals, or any other life changes that may occur.)

  • Risk assessment exposure- Life, Health, Disability or Liability insurance


 

Cost: Starting at $30 per month

After an initial meeting, we will determine together what services best fit your needs.  The subscription runs annually and prices may increase as planning needs change.  Subscription fee is charged monthly, debited from your savings or checking account.


 


 

COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING MODEL

 

Often, getting older comes with career advancement, higher income, increased assets, and family needs. Lives become more complex. In addition to the suite of services outlined in the Subscription Model, the Comprehensive Model provides services designed to address your more complex needs.


 

Strategic, comprehensive financial planning provides the foundation on which you can build a better future. At this point in your life, you may use professionals to help you with specific tasks, such as attorneys or accountants. Sometimes, advice provided by one advisor doesn't completely sync with the other. As your planner, we see the complete picture and often consult with your other professionals to try to achieve the optimum result.

 

Planning areas may include:

  • Sophisticated investment strategies

  • Tax planning*

  • Estate planning and legacy desires

  • Income and cash flow needs

  • Health care cost management

  • Risk mitigation

  • Real estate transaction and financing consultations

  • The proper use of credit

  • Care planning for aging parents

  • Planning for inter-generational transfer

 

 

Successful people realize that they are not experts in every aspect of their life.  They want to get more out of their lives by doing the things they love.  They hire professionals to provide experienced advice and counsel in the other key areas.  For clients who have assets, have an idea of majoy life goals they would like to accomplish, or are ready to begin planning for retirement, we offer a more comprehensive planning package.

 

For most clients, consolidating your assets is one of the most efficient and effective ways to attain your financial goals. For that reason, services are “packaged” so that the more assets directly managed, the more services (financial planning, outside asset reviews, etc.) that are included as part of the fee.


 

Services under the Comprehensive Planning Model will include:

  • Needs assessment/Initial planning meeting in person
  • Goal Planning (college savings, vacation planning, budgeting, home purchase)

  • Comprehensive Financial Plan that is reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis and reevaluated yearly

  • Client Portal with account aggregation (A way to see all of your accounts in one place.)

  • Quarterly allocation recommendations on active 401(k)  

  • Portfolio management targeted to support your planning goals

  • Quarterly performance report

  • Ongoing access to an advisor via email, phone or in person (We are available to you throughout the year to answer any concern related to your plan, goals, or any other life changes that may occur.)

  • Refer you to an attorney or accountant or work with your professionals

  • Create long term cash flow forecasts that will indicate a probable lifestyle in retirement based on assets accumulated in pre-retirement years

  • Clarify your employee benefits package, and specify what insurance coverage is needed to supplement that package

  • Risk assessment exposure- Life, Health, Disability, Long Term Care or Liability insurance


 

Account minimum: $25,000

 

Asset Management based fees:

Note: Tier rates are blended. Financial planning and investment advisory services are paid by direct deduction from your accounts that we manage.  For new clients starting in the Comprehensive Planning Model, with accounts less than $250,000, an additional planning fee may be assessed in complex planning cases.

 

TIER : ASSET LEVEL - FEE

Tier 1: 0-$50,000 - 1.25% +

Tier 2: $50,000-$100,000 - 1.25%

Tier 3: $100,000-$250,000 - 1.25%

Tier 4: $250,000-$500,000 - 1.05%

Tier 5: $500,000-$1,000,000 - 0.75%

Tier 6: $1,000,000-$3,000,000 - 0.55%

Tier 7: $3,000,000-$5,000,000 - 0.5%

Tier 8: $5,000,000-$10,000,000+ - 0.5%


+ Our minimum account size for this program is $25,000.  Accounts with opening balances between $5,000 and $25,000 will be managed using an outside manager with a program fee of 0.5% plus our 1.25% fee.  When accounts reach $25,000 we will transfer them to our advisor directed program.


 

 

HOURLY FINANCIAL ADVICE

 

Comprehensive, professional financial planning is the cornerstone of planning for a better life. Just as every successful business has a solid business plan, financially successful people use financial plans to organize, coordinate, and fulfill their financial objectives and life goals; it is one of the best investments you can make in your future. Though we feel that financial success is best achieved through an ongoing relationship between an advisor and client, we do offer hourly services.


 

Hourly planning fees are ideal for the do-it-yourselfers who would like help reviewing investments or, someone with little or no investments for us to manage but have a need for some financial guidance.

 

Other reasons why you may need hourly planning:

 

  • A check-up to determine progress in meeting financial goals
  • A financial plan

  • Putting together an estate plan

  • A second opinion on financial issues

  • A financial planning road map

  • Retirement accumulation strategies

  • Structuring tax strategies

  • Retirement withdrawal strategies

  • Review of investments in a 401(k)

  • Discussing major life changes


 

Cost: $135 per hour. A standard financial plan has a set fee of $3,375.
